May 17, 2020Directions and criteria for Paper One: Develop a fully articulated outline (not less than 1.5 double-spaced pages), works cited page (minimum of three citations) and write an essay (2.5 to 4 pages in length) responding to the following instructions: Type an essay about yourself including the following: analyze the racial and ethnic features of your identity. Consider your ancestral origins and how your heritage has influenced who you are today. Reflect on such factors as language, the naming practices of newborns, physical characteristics, religion, and family customs and traditions. Also, think about and discuss whether the construction of gender roles within your family tradition has caused you to be either an agent or target of oppression with respect to opposite gender(s). Discuss customary gender roles in your family, remembering that these roles are central and well-defined to some groups and less obvious and defined to others. Remember that everyone has a racial/ethnic heritage even though not everyone is aware of this aspect of their identity. Submit a separate works cited page with your outline. Submit all three (the paper, outline and works cited) by the assigned deadline as one document. Grades will be based on the following criteria: 1) Overall quality of outline 20 points Adherence to and coverage of the complete instructions for the assignment. 2) Research content and quality of essay 60 points Contextual information about yourself should be researched and your sources cited. Your story should be clearly and thoughtfully expressed. 3) Presentation 10 points Appearance, neatness, margins, and font size. (12 point font for the entire body of the text including the outline) 4) Works cited 10 points Variety, credibility, and the stylistic format of sources. Either MLA or Chicago styles are acceptable; decide on a style and stick to it.
