Type of Essay: Argumentative Research Essay Style: APA Pages: 7 1 cover page, 1 Abstract, 4 page of Essay, and 1 Reference page The argumentative research essay should include 1.) an informative, effective, and attention-grabbing title; 2.) an introduction with necessary background information (with jargon, technical language and ideas, and complex ideas defined and/or explained); 3.) a clear, specific, and arguable/debatable 1-2 sentence thesis statement that effectively expresses your main ideas and argument at the end of the introduction; 4.) topic sentences for each of your body paragraphs; 5.) body paragraphs that feature good reasons to back your position up and convincing support and evidence for your reasons in the forms of good reasons, facts, statistics, expert testimony, anecdotal evidence, case studies, textual evidence, and etc.; 6.) careful consideration of other positions (a.k.a. opposing views/counterargument(s)); logos, pathos, and ethos appeals; avoidance of logical fallacies and other problems with reasoning/logic; 7.) appropriate quotation marks and/or block quotes and in-text citations in MLA or APA style; 8.) a trustworthy, academic, and formal tone; 9.) a summary or speculative conclusion; and 10.) an MLA style works cited or APA style references documenting the 7-10 currently, credible, and scholarly sources you have used in your essay.
