1815 To The Present

Here are some brief instructions for our Learning Objective essay. For history classes, we provide the opportunity to look into a specific topic with more depth and scope. You are allowed to pick your own topic, research it, and place the event or trend in historical context. In other words, offer some background on your topic and explain how it made an impact on its historical timeframe or future events and trends. One of the few catches is that it must be within the timeframe of our class, i.e. 1814 to present, and something that has impacted European History. Here is the prompt: “Within the time period of our course, choose a person, event, or trend and explain why you think your choice make a significant contribution to history.” The Industrial Revolution is my topic. By way of advice don’t pick a topic that it too immense, like World War I or the Great Depression. These topics are so complex that addressing them in 500 words or so is an impossible task. Instead, focus on a specific topic within a larger issue. An example could be working women in the labor force during World War II, or identify how an invention or an idea made and impact on Europe and other parts of the globe. You can examine art and entertainment changes, or a social movement that made an impact on people’s lives. It does not have to be one of the most important topics in history, but something that you feel is significant. Be creative if you like. This is a required essay for the class and it will count as 10% of your final class grade. Plagiarism will not be tolerated, so please do not attempt to cut and paste works that are not yours.
