Discuss the way at least one writer in Unit 3 uses irony. Malamud, O’Connor, and Cisneros may strike many of you as appropriate subjects. 3. When is empathy an important quality for the narrative voice in a literary work to display? How does it affect our understanding of the work? Welty and Dove may be good choices (either or both) for this topic. 4. Construct an argument why one text in Unit 3 must be included in any list of America’s greatest literary works. Show what this text does especially well and why its doing so matters.
