June 19, 2020Supporting Reasons Assignment This essay and the accompanying assignments are designed to develop the skills necessary to write an argument using all the skills and techniques we have discussed in class this semester. For this assignment you should continue with the argument you have been working with. First, be sure you understand your audience and then write an argument that uses the reason you believe will be the easiest to support. In order to determine your audience be sure you consider the warrant and your purpose for writing your argument. Your argument should include all the features of a classical argument except the section on summarizing and responding to opposing views, which we will cover next week. This assignment builds on the assignments we’ve done in the previous weeks, and now you are expanding your argument into a full argument. For some extra instruction on how to finish this assignment read Option 2 from the Writing Assignment on page 104 of the text. Your essay should have: A strong, arguable, and sharply focused enthymeme which reveals to the reader your position on the particular issue you have chosen to write about. A strong opening sentence and introduction which immediately grabs the attention of the reader. Several paragraphs which develops and explores your thesis by using techniques which have been discussed in class. Grading criteria: Grammar, spelling, and punctuation 10 points APA format 10 points Content presentation 30 points Total 50 points Requirements: Length: 500 words (about 1.5-2 pages). You will be required to include a Title page, the body of the essay, and a References page. POV: 3rd person only; informal language is not acceptable for this essay assignment. Research: Required. The subject matter of this essay will require you to perform research. Due Date: The final draft is due February 20, 2017.
