We are going to particularly explore stratification for the gender non conforming/gender queer/transgender community in this Journal Response. From the perspective of a conflict theorist, what is the role of cisgender privilege with respect to the rights of transgender individuals? Each year hate crimes are committed against the LGBTQI+ communities. Prior to recent years, the LGBTQI community was not protected from federal hate crimes legislation. This changed when the President signed the Matthew Shepard and James Byrd, Jr. Hate Crimes Prevention Act. What do you feel causes hate crimes? What distinguishes hate crimes from other crimes?
