Discuss social work’s prospective future
June 23, 2020Writing About Writing by Perri Klass titled “Learning the Language”
June 23, 2020This is an interesting line of argument. Your argument is, if I am following this correctly, that the Iliad and the Odyssey are showing us both the Bronze Age and the Archaic Age? I think that would be a defensible position to take but I will ask you to revisit two parts. Your follow up will have two parts to it. For part 1, please replace these references to the Odyssey from the initial post [1] Homer. The Odyssey, pg. 24 [2] Ibid, 307 with book and line numbers from the assigned translations (linked to the forum prompt) and cite them according to book and line numbers (as in the citation thread model up above this week’s forum) so that we can follow along your evidence base. (It is a requirement of the course to use the assigned translation). For part 2 of the follow up, please say more about the following: for this second citation, I think you are arguing that the hospitality rituals depicted in the poem point to Archaic Age Greece. Is that what you were suggesting? What evidence is there in our Martin textbook or in our lecture materials from weeks 1-2, to support this idea? Bryce, Trevor, Life and Society in the Hittite World, chapter 6, section entitled “Composition of the Army” (pp 109-113); then chapter 14 “Links across the Wine-Dark Sea,” entire (in our APU library) Navigating the Homer Readings Iliad Books 1, 6, 16, 23 Odyssey Books 1, 6, 14, 16 Your post must acknowledge and deal effectively with potential counter arguments (as in, “Although we admittedly do find slight hints of life in an Archaic Age Greek polis, the vast majority of these two epic poems reflect Bronze Age Hittite or Anatolian culture”). The post must incorporate and cite at least 2 specific passages from this week’s assigned readings (excluding lecture materials; be sure to incorporate and cite specific passages assigned for this week from the Iliad and the Odyssey). Make sure that you clearly demonstrate that you are constructing your post on the basis of this week’s assigned readings: there is no credit awarded for outside sources; there will be point deductions for the incorporation of lower-tier sources.
