My SWOT analysis is for a community affairs council within a city government. The council supports many different areas within the city government, but the focus for my SWOT analysis will be programs presented to the community being used. Strengths • Partnerships with non-profits • Quality and diversity of programs • Volunteer employees • Partnership between city departments • Great youth sports programs Weaknesses • Lack of at-risk teen programming • Limitations of available facilities and resources • Understanding the general need rather than special interests • Community awareness of programs • Lack of master calendar of events Opportunities • Public donations • Boys and Girls Club • Volunteers • Activities sponsored by non-profit organizations • Engaged minority community Threats • Programs not always well known • Costs of participation • Duplicate efforts among groups • Change in demographics • Financial reliance on city budget The SWOT analysis impacts the actions to execute and improve the company’s strategy. The strengths listed in the analysis are the foundation to build the strategy upon. The weaknesses must be modified because they make the company susceptible to being ineligible for any opportunities to improve and grow. The opportunities should be pursued by the company according to their abilities and resources available. The external threats should be considered, and strengths should be maximized to minimize the threats impact. One of the changes that can be made based on the SWOT analysis is increasing partnerships with non-profits to help engage more minority communities. Another change would be to campaign for volunteers to attract people to programs that not always well-known. Additionally, partnerships between city departments should work together closely to create and implement more programs for at-risk teens. These changes will address the change in demographics to learn what the community’s needs are and raise community awareness.
