nInternet plays a vital role in every learning institution. It facilitates easy access of data, communication and sharing of ideas. Barry suggests that internet should be considered an institution due to the crucial role it plays in the modern world (Kamal, et al, 2). The right to access internet should be provided as it helps students to make learning process as easy as possible.
nThe ruling of U.S Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is likely to affect the majority of Americans. This is because it is will limit FCC to develop policies on net neutrality. Therefore, not all data on the internet will be treated with equality thus charging differently by content, user, application and modes of communications (Kamal, et al, 2). In addition, lack of policies would not open internet rules thus making the internet services less affordable to most people throughout the country.
nInternet access can be considered a right because all people should access the internet in order to enjoy their rights to freedom of free speech and opinion. In this regard, the cost of broadband should be affordable so that subscribers are not restricted from accessing the internet (Kamal, et al, 4). In addition, internet is a learning tool that promotes development, communications, and enhances learning environment at all levels.
nThe FCC ruling and the “digital divide” leads to different grades of citizen(s) with different legal rights. This is because it limits the principle that internet should remain open and free (Goodman, 1). Therefore, internet service providers such as Verizon may continue to discriminate various users and providers. In addition, some individuals may pay more to receive or send information online.
nBarrys view about equal opportunity enhances social justices of institutions. This is because internet creates an enabling environment for members of the society to work more efficiently through effective communication (Goodman, 5). Besides, institutions will be in a position to increase the opportunities available through the internet.
