nContributions made by the Successors of Rome
nThe romans emerged in mid-2nd millennium BC, from a small settlement near Rome. They began a course of growth that developed as the dominant supremacy in the region of Mediterranean (Bunson, 2002). By the 1st century AD, the empire had expanded from Britain in North to Egypt in south. The three major successor states of Rome emerged after 600s CE. These were Arabic-speaking Empire that controlled the Middle-East, Spain and North Africa (Birdal, 2011). Secondly, there was Greek-speaking orthodox Christian Byzantine Empire that dominated South East Europe and some parts of Italy. Thirdly there was Latin-speaking catholic Carolingian empire which dominated most parts of Central and Western Europe. These three successor states were bitter rivals in the early middle ages of 600s-1100 AD. Successor of Rome contributed to the advancement of systems of government in their respective empires (Birdal, 2011). For instance, governments and legislative structures ended up applying the roman model as a strategy of establishing their own governments. They also advanced the technology and architecture as a result of increase in population in their countries.
nSuccessors of Rome influence lives today
nThe Roman Empire fell more than 1500 years ago but it still influences our lives. For instance, the roman language influenced the contemporary languages (Bunson, 2002). Approximately 300 million individual use languages directly related to Latin – roman language. Many English words originate from Latin. In addition, the Roman law is the foundation of law in most Latin-American and European countries. Moreover, the romans built bridges, roads and aqueduct that are still in use up-to today. Besides, buildings constructed on roman architecture still stands throughout South and North America and Europe (Birdal, 2011). Roman Empire was bound together by principles of tolerance, justice and desire for peace. This have influenced many generations especially contemporary generations. Romans qualities of pietas (sense of duty and dignitas (sense of personal worth) remain ideal for most people throughout the world (Birdal, 2011). It also contributed to the modern calendar with leap years and institutions of Christianity.
n Contributions of the Islamic world
nThe Arab empire took control over the eastern section of the Roman Empire; the byzantine after Roman Empire become weak in 5th century (Bunson, 2002). The Empire included the modern day Middle East with various authorities including Persian Empire. Under the rule of Constantine, Christianity became the state religion in Roman Empire. Similarly, Islam rose in Middle East several hundred years later in seventh century. Islam first prophet Mohamed began to spread the faith of Islam among the people of Middle East. Islam became the base of Arab empire.
nCastle structure and life
nCastle is a form of structure built in Europe and Middle East. The building was characterized by fortified structures that acted as residence of lords and noble (Bunson, 2002). Castles were invented by European after the fall of Carolingian empire. The structures provided base where raids could be launched or protection against the enemies. They were used as symbols of powers and administration.
nImproving on the Castle structure using Modern Technology
nCastles did not have good water and drainage system, therefore, constructing toilet and bath system would improve the living standards (Bunson, 2002). In addition, window glasses need to be installed to keep the rooms warm and well-lighted. Kitchen should also be improved so that food is prepared in a clean environment. For luxury, heated swimming pool should be constructed. Internet connections should be installed for entertainment and communication. For security reasons, surveillance cameras should be installed in and out of the castles. Similar, to improve defence system, there should be well-trained guards with modern weapons
