May 23, 2020Short fiction essay: Identifying themes in short fiction Develop Short fiction essay: Identifying themes in short fiction “A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings” illustrates that preconceived notions can hinder a person’s ability to embrace new ideas. Develop this thesis statement into an essay which meets the requirements below: 1). Open the essay with a brief summary of the story including the title and author and thesis. 2). The supporting paragraphs should address at least three examples from the story which illustrate your support for your chosen thesis. You should include a direct quote from the story to support each example. (Therefore, there should be a minimum of three quotes from the story). 3). All quotes should be properly documented with in text citation as well as a Works Cited entry documenting the source. 4). The paper should follow all guidelines for MLA format. 5). The paper should exhibit mastery of mechanics including punctuation, spelling, and sentence structure. 6). The paper should be a minimum of 500-750 words 7). The essay should be written in 3rd person and use present tense when referring to events in the story. 8). The essay should use no outside sources. Note: The essay should not be a chronological retelling of the story. It should be an in depth analysis of literary elements and how they contribute to the theme and thesis.
