Cultural studies is a way of analyzing literature that asks the reader to consider how the text responds to or criticizes larger cultural phenomenon including power, gender, race/ethnicity, immigration status, sexuality orientation, or class. So to analyze Drown though this lens would be to think about what Junot Diaz might be saying about these issues through his stories.
