June 15, 2020Diversity is the ‘buzz word’ of businesses and countries in the 21st century. Many businesses have a Diversity Policy; some businesses have a Chief Diversity Officer (CDO) and/or an entire department devoted to diversity practices; the federal government has mandated the use of Affirmative Action and some state governments have enforced diversity using various legal regulations. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, by the year 2020, the Caucasian population of the United States will no longer be the majority group. Many argue that diversity policies and practices, along with overbearing legal and regulatory policies have balkanized our society. They point out that we no longer have national sovereignty, a universal language or culture. What is the purpose of diversity? How does diversity affect your business? The work force? Capitalism? Have we ‘over-diversified’ to the point of losing identity? Should U.S. companies continue to place as much emphasis on diversity as they have in the past? ———– Select one of the following questions and give a substantive response. 1) Name some companies with whom you have done business. Then discuss how you view their employer brands. Would you want to work for them or not?
