nIntroduction
nBirthday party for 70-year-old mother is a great celebration of her outstanding life. It also help to strengthen her self-esteem hence making her feel valued. A birthday party is one of the most important gift that a person in her advanced age can be given. However, successful birthday parties require proper planning. In addition, these plans must mirror the interests of the mother (Teevan, Jones & Bederson, 2011).
nPre-Party Action plan
n3 months prior to the Birthday
nAt this point, a theme of the birthday party will be selected which help to define subject of the celebration. The theme helps to organize foods, crafts, games, decorations and invitations (Walsh, 2009). In addition, the guest list would be developed and the date will be confirmed. Moreover, the date with my moms best friends will be confirmed and an off-site space would be reserved. My mother would be consulted. The invitations would be either homemade or store-bought and will establish the mood the birthday party (Teevan, Jones & Bederson, 2011). The guest will be informed of the directions, date and time and other special information.
n3-4 weeks prior to the birthday
nThe period will be used to write invitation and make decisions on food, activities and games. The organizer will also acquire the updated list of the guests. The invitations will also be sent to the guest (Walsh, 2009). During this period, birthday party items will be purchased. Additionally, homemade favors and decorations will start as well as arrangement for extra assistance in case it is needed.
n1-2 weeks prior to the birthday party
nThe duration will be used to buy craft favors and supplies, and developing a plan for activities during the actual day. Similarly, samples of prearranged crafts will be made. It is also important to call invited persons who have failed to respond from the previous invitations (Walsh, 2009).
n3 days prior to the birthday
nNotably, the three days will be dedicated to purchasing the foodstuffs and other perishable items (Lansky, 2012).
n1-2 days before the Birthday
nThe time will be reserved for baking the cake and beautifying the house. Significantly, the organizer will ensure that all off-site deliveries are collected. Finally, make-ahead diets will be prepared (Walsh, 2009).
nThe Invitee List
nPersons to invite
nThe birthday partys organizer will ensure that my moms best friends are available during the actual day. All close friends of my mom will be invited in order to hurt the feelings of those who are not invited (Teevan, Jones & Bederson, 2011).
nThe Number of Guests to Invite
nThe birthday party will include of his close relatives and friends. However, the number of people invited will pay close attention on the budget and the activities. Precisely, the invited guests will not be less than ten because it will ensure that the event is colorful and engaging (Teevan, Jones & Bederson, 2011).
nInvitations
nA wide range of methods will be used to deliver invitations three weeks prior to the party. Hand-delivery will be used to convey the message to close relatives and friends in the neighborhood. Moreover, mail invitations will be used to contact moms friends who live in far distances. The invitations will include the locations of the birthday party, the date, the directions, pick-up times, drop-off and the RSVP details (Walsh, 2009). It will also explain what will be served during the birthday such as dinner or lunch. Furthermore, the invitation will describe whether there will be specific performance such as music. Finally, invitees who have not responded will be called to ascertain their attendance (Teevan, Jones & Bederson, 2011).
nRegistering Helpers
nThe organizer will also enlist a number of people who will help in the birthday party. The helpers will be used in food preparations, serving drinks and supervising the activities of the event. The helpers will also be hired to babysit the small kids. Notably, older grandchildren may be used for this purpose (Walsh, 2009). Some of the people who are enlisted for this work include friends, relatives or spouses.
nThe Venue of the Birthday Party
nA number of options exist with regard to where the birthday party will be held. Some of the options for the venues include at home, off-site, community centers, churches or at YMCAS (Lansky, 2012). In particular, the birthday party can be held at my mums home where everything can be accessed from within the homestead. However, the organizer should define the area of the party to help children attending the event from roistering around. For this reason, streamers and balloons can be utilized to control the movements of these kids. Alternatively, other rooms in the house can be useful in restrain their whereabouts. On the other hand, parks can be beneficial if the home party seem unpleasant (Teevan, Jones & Bederson, 2011).
nWhen to hold the Party
nDuration and Moment of Day
nTiming is a very crucial factor when planning for an event. The program of the birthday party will be held when my mother will be at her best. In this regard, it will not be held when she is too tired or sleepy. Afternoon works best for persons at advanced age. It also allows the invited guests to arrive on time and leave on their pleasure. The party will take between 3-4 hours (Walsh, 2009).
nItems to Serve
nThe activities will involve decorating and baking my moms birthday cake. Foods that are easy to clean up, eat and served will be selected. For instance, guest will be served with pizzas and snacks (Lansky, 2012). Cakes are considered the center of any birthday party. My mother will be given the initial slice of the cake. Apart from the cake, children present will be served with ice creams and cheese. The items to be served will represent the personal tastes and preferences (Teevan, Jones & Bederson, 2011).
nSelecting Favors
nCandy and trinkets are inexpensive and popular favors. The theme of the birthday will match with the goodies. However, my mother will be given a chance to make her own favors for the party. The party will be decorated with appropriate items. On the other hand, kids present in the birthday party will enjoy the face painting (Lansky, 2012).
nEntertainment
nAn outside performing group should be hired in order to entertain the guests. Information should be gathered from libraries on the best performing theatre groups. An entertainer who understands the needs of people at advanced age will be hired. A musician can also be contracted to compose a song for my mother. Creative groups such as dancers and choreographers will also be part of the performance. Notably, the organizer will give the first priority to local talents. Furthermore, other experts such as deejays will be hired to ensure the performance is colorful. The session will not take more than an hour (Walsh, 2009).
nManaging Expenses
nIt is important to manage the expenses for the party since an effective birthday party is not necessarily based on huge amount of money. A mother at advanced age needs appreciation and enjoys meeting old friends. Therefore, the organizers will avoid purchasing very expensive items such as foodstuffs and decorations. Instead they will spend on nice items such as souvenirs and craft, which my mother love (Lansky, 2012).
nGifts sessions
nThe birthday party will also include a session of awarding gift to my mother. All the invited guests will be allocated adequate time to present their gifts to her. Most senior persons appreciate the gifts from their children, relatives and friends. The period for presenting gifts will also be used for taking photos with my mum (Walsh, 2009). Guests and friends awarding their gifts will be snapped with my mother.
nThank you session
nThe period will be used to express the appreciation to the guests, friends and relatives for attending the birthday party. One of the family members will be tasked with the responsibility of delivering a speech on the behave of my mother for the event. Moreover, my mother will also be given a chance to personally acknowledge the people. Furthermore, she will also say good-bye to guests before they depart. Finally, she will give them a favor bag as they set off (Teevan, Jones & Bederson, 2011).
nEmergency Plan
nFinally, it is important to prepare for unplanned events in the birthday party. This is the most difficult thing to in such an event. For instance, there should be contingency plan in cases of unexpected medical conditions such as food allergies or poisoning. Secondly, there will be a strategy to control pets, which may be afraid of guests, hence; they should be stay in separate room (Lansky, 2012).
